Just as Melania was becoming unusually visible in public, she gave a rare glimpse at what that schedule looks like once the cameras are gone. During a recent television conversation that included her son Barron, she was asked whether the family still tries to come together for something as ordinary as Sunday dinner.
Her answer probably sounded familiar to any mother whose children are grown and whose family calendar seems harder to coordinate every year. Melania said family time has to be scheduled because everyone is busy, adding that Donald can remain in the Oval Office as late as 9:30 p.m. and reminding the hosts, “I am busy too.”

Those comments added a personal note to a week already filled with speeches, meetings, and public events. But by Thursday evening, the focus was about to move somewhere completely different — because another side of Melania was waiting at the White House.
