I sat in the business center of a hotel where two hundred guests were waiting for a wedding that was not going to happen, and I held the drive in my hand and looked at Noah, who was now quietly drawing on a piece of printer paper he had found beside the keyboard.

Emily told me she wanted to be there.

The custody modification Rebecca had been building never materialized.
